Welcome to the British Council Philippines website.
I joined the British Council in the Philippines in 2013, and feel very lucky to live and work in such a friendly, vibrant and culturally-diverse country.
We are approaching the 40th anniversary of opening an office in the Philippines, although our work here goes back further, through our support for the Philippine-British Society. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos have gained high-quality qualifications through us, or have taken part in our programmes or our scholarships.
Our aim here today – just as it was 40 years ago – is to create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and the Philippines. We do this by using the UK’s cultural resources to make a positive contribution to both countries, creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.
Our work continues to expand into innovative and exciting new areas, reaching more people in more parts of the country than ever before. Our priorities to 2020 include:
- Using the UK’s strength in English, Education and Science to contribute to social and economic development in the Philippines, recognising the huge importance of human capital in a country with a very young population and fast-growing economy.
- Sharing UK models to help individuals and institutions contribute to a more inclusive, open and prosperous society, with a particular focus on supporting the peace process in Mindanao.
- Supporting the emergence of a vibrant creative sector that is better connected to the UK.
Please use this website to find out more about our work and what we can offer. I would also encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And we would love to hear from you, too – whether you are interested in partnering with us, taking one of our courses or exams, or would like to give us your feedback on how we can make things even better.
