Scoping Visit

For the 2015 leg of the BIR Programme in the Philippines, the selected UK counterpart is Community Action Network (CAN) while the selected Philippine counterpart is Foundation for a Sustainable Society Inc. (FSSI)

BIR kicked-off last November with a contract signing attended by British Council, FSSI, and CAN. A week-long scoping visit was also held for CAN’s representative to dialogue with 13 of FSSI’s partners to gain insight on what Philippine social enterprises need. The partners are primary organisations which included social enterprises, cooperatives, and sector-based groups.

The collaboration visit will take place on February 2016. During this period, CAN will conduct trainings and workshops for FSSI partners to capacitate them on business acumen and social impact measurement.

Some of the groups that participated in the discussion were:

  • Community Crafts Association of the Philippines (CCAP)
  • Philippine Coffee Alliance (PCA)
  • Pilipinas Eco Fiber (PEC)
  • Foundation for These-Abled Persons (FTI)
  • Tahanang Walang Hagdan (TWH)
  • Foundation for a Sustainable Society (FSSI)
  • Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasaka (PAKISAMA)
  • Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM)
  • Philippine NGO Support Program (PHANSuP)
  • Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA)
  • Palawan Center for Appropriate Rural Technology (PCART)
  • Federation of Peoples’ Sustainable Development Corporate (FPSDC)
  • Poverty Reduction through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Coalition

The final outputs from this project are:

  • An individual plan for each partner social enterprise to better measure their impact.
  • A roadmap for FSSI detailing how it can better assist its partners.
