Two premiere theatre institutions from the UK and Asia partner together to fuse two cultures and present them onto one stage. The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) once again partners with The British Council in collaboration with London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) to bring world-class training to professional actors through a week-long workshop running from 2-7 February 2015 at the PETA Theater Center Studios.
PETA is dedicated to the pursuit of excellent theatre aesthetics and has long been partnering with theatre organizations and drama institutions from all over the globe. For the second time around, RADA, one of the foremost drama academies in the world is coming to The Philippines. Following their visit in 2013 for a week-long course on Creative Musical Theater for musical theatre professionals, RADA holds a course on Acting Techniques. This course will explore techniques and processes involved in performing Shakespearean text with a focus on the elements of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. At a later date, the students will be given an opportunity to join a production made through the collaboration of RADA facilitators and PETA artist-teachers, inspired by the stories from one of PETA’s partner communities in the typhoon-stricken Leyte, Philippines. The immersion intends to ground learnings from The Tempest into a local context, fusing these two cultures together in pedagogy, towards the empowerment of people and society.
Headed by RADA’s Associate Director Nona Shepphard and Voice Tutor Tom Wakeley, students will delve into practical exercises that will develop and extend their acting and vocal techniques and will be given the opportunity to work closely with each of the tutors. Exercises include learning the rhythm of blank verse, the use of language and word stress, inhabiting and motivating the text, giving and receiving cues, and many more.
Classes run from 2-7 February 2015.
