Ten Philippine universities are setting the scene for more Filipinos to acquire quality international degrees.
Through the two-year British Council and Commission on Higher Education collaborative project, Joint Development of Niche Programmes through Philippine-UK Linkages, the Philippine universities are now gearing up to partner with UK universities to offer UK degrees in August 2018.
In July, Coventry University and Liverpool Hope University signed separate memoranda of agreements with University of San Carlos and De la Salle University, respectively, which will see the Philippine and UK universities offer joint and dual graduate degrees to Filipino students together with their UK partners in 2018.
On 21 July, the University of San Carlos, represented by President Fr Dionisio Miranda, SVD and Coventry University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Richard Dashwood signed a memorandum of agreement to offer Dual Degree on PhD in Engineering.
The De La Salle University (DLSU) and Liverpool Hope University (LHU) also signed a memorandum of understanding on the 26th July, agreeing to deliver four dual degrees in 2018: MSc Computer Science, MSc Data Science / MSc in Data Engineering, MSc Robotics Engineering and MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition.
Professor Raouf Naguib, the project lead from LHU had expressed: ‘We are very proud to enter into a partnership with De La Salle University, one of the foremost teaching and research institutions in the Philippines. We look forward to enhancing this relationship, not only through the dual-degree Masters programmes under the auspices of the British Council/Commission on Higher Education Transnational Education initiative, but also through a closer research collaboration, joint publications and staff and student exchanges.’
DLSU President Br. Raymundo Belardo Suplido FSC and LHU Faculty of Science Dean Dr Atulya Nagar lead the signing from DLSU and LHU respectively. Also present during the signing were CHED Commissioner Minella Alarcon and British Council Head of Education Lotus Postrado.
