LADDERIZED PROGRAMME

The Master of Public Health International is a collaborative program between the University of Santo Tomas and University of Leeds. The program’s primary objective is to establish knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of public health with emphasis on international issues, settings and practice, and with focus on the low-middle income Asian regions. The program is a single award to be given by the University of Santo Tomas with a Postgraduate Certificate from the University of Leeds. In the initial year of implementation (September 2018), students will have study abroad at the University of Leeds Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development for three months. In the succeeding years, instructors will fly-in or a distance education scheme will be applied from the University of Leeds’ Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development. 

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  1. Better understand the conceptual framework around public health policy and management of health and health systems from a national and international policy context.
  2. Address the causes of common diseases and evaluate different strategies for disease control and other priority health services in order to select the most effective and feasible action plans and programmes. 
  3. Analyse issues in health policy and understand how to improve quality, accessibility and acceptability of health services using epidemiology, statistics and evidence-based public health interventions.
  4. Develop community capacities for health and other sectors to manage the health risks associated with emergencies and disasters including those caused by Climate Change.
  5. Apply bioethical principles confidently. 

How to Apply

Admission policies

  1. Accomplished admission requirements must be personally submitted to the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Room 213 during the application period during the months of January-March.
  2. The minimum entry qualifications are as follows:
  • Degree classification (1.75 GPA or higher at UST) or equivalent in a Bachelors degree with Honours from a Philippine University/programme designated as a Centre of Excellence (COE) by the CHED, or equivalent international qualification or equivalent exceptional qualifications deemed acceptable by the admission committees of both UoL and UST.
  • 6.5 IELTS overall with no less than 6.0 in each part, or equivalent English language qualification.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in a hospital or other public health setting.
  • UK visa

3. Applicants should pass the screening by both UST and UoL before admission into the programme.
