PhD Sustainable Food Systems
Dual Degree
Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through its CHED-accredited Centers of Excellence units, partners with University of Liverpool (UoL), through its Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Food Systems, to develop and implement a dual / double degree PhD in Sustainable Food Systems by research programme. The graduate degree is multi-disciplinary, harnesses the strengths in agriculture and fisheries education of both institutions for mutual advantage, and promote quality programmes that produce competent and globally recognized graduates equipped with mastery of specialized fields of study.
Key learning outcomes of the 3-4 year doctoral programme will be graduates possessing original critical thinking and problem solving skills in the priority areas of technology and food security in support to national and international agenda of development. The programme does not include core courses, and students undertake research activities culminating in writing their dissertation. Students spend a certain period of study in both institutions. Preparation and implementation of the curriculum follow the legal processes, and quality assurance required by both partner institutions. CLSU’s experiences derived in this academic undertaking through capability building, research collaboration and faculty/student exchange will enhance its delivery of curricular programs, e.g. learning and teaching modalities, close faculty-student engagement through supervised research, higher standards of quality assurance systems, and new experience in joint and dual degree programme offerings that will cascade to other curricula of the university. As one of the pioneer Philippine HEI to offer PhD by research, CLSU will be in vantage position as provider of advanced education in technology and food security for public and private HEIs, research institutions, and development-oriented organizations in the country and beyond borders.
